A lot of you felt like you still had comments you wanted to make on the abortion issue discussed in todays February 15th meeting.
The founder of Planned Parenthood was Margorie Sanger she was devout atheist that believed in negative eugenics in order to make the world a better place. She started "Negro Protect" in order to try to decrease the number of African American reproduction in the U.S. (as well as other minorities) and therefore stop the birth of people she felt weren't capable of raising children.
Now Planned Parenthood is the leader in abortion in the U.S.
For every one black person born 3 are aborted.
Since 1981 there has been 13 million black children aborted (as of 2008).
78% of Planned Parenthood is in minority neighborhoods.
Black women are three times more likely to abort a child than white women.
13% of the womans population is black, whole 37% of the abortions in the U.S. were from black women.
What is the black problem? Is this a coincidence? How do we stop this and is there a solution? Does choice trump an opportunity at life? is the lack of finances to take care of a child a reasonable reason to abort? These are questions we must ask ourselves... What do you think?

I missed this meeting and discussion, but I would still like to chime in on the issue. I hope this will be a topic of discussion in a future meeting seeing as it is a pressing issue in our community.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the founding of Planned Parenthood may have been based on intentions aimed at destroying African Americans, Planned Parenthood today works very hard to support African American families. Abortion is a small facet of the services Planned Parenthood provides. Planned Parenthood also provides a wide variety of pre-natal care and other health resources for women at a significantly reduced rate, thereby benefiting the many African American women who choose to carry their babies to term. In this respect, we should be glad that this reduced healthcare is concentrated in minority neighborhoods so that women do not have access to a clinic or medical facility on the other side of town can receive adequate healthcare for themselves and their unborn children. Without the resources of Planned Parenthood, many low-income women would not be able to afford the vitamins, sonograms, and tests necessary to ensure that each and every baby is born healthy.
Every pregnant woman of any racial or ethnic background decides whether she should carry her pregnancy to term or have an abortion. If a Black woman goes to Planned Parenthood after she finds out she's pregnant, she will be given all the information she needs to make the choice that is best for her and her family. We should respect the right of every woman to choose whether to carry her pregnancy to term or have an abortion. Contrary to what some men may think, Black women are more than capable of making decisions about their bodies and about their families. Our culture has a long history of trusting and respecting women, so why can we not trust a Black woman today to make the choice that is right for her?
I pose a different question that we as African Americans should be asking ourselves. Why are African American women choosing abortion? Although I do not know the answer to that question, I do know that the answer will point to deeper issues, much deeper than abortion, within our own community that are negatively affecting Black men and women, our relationships, and our families. Planned Parenthood is not the enemy of the Black people. The Planned Parenthood of today is an organization that aims to provide every woman regardless of her race, ethnicity, or religion a choice in her health matters. Giving Black women a choice where we historically have not had one is something we can all support.

Don't you all think it is best to go to the source for information rather than biased accounts of what they do?
You might find that Planned Parenthood is a very informative organization for all women and for all health issues and that a majority of their resources go to treating and addressing a plethora of health issues, other than abortion.
